Let's Make a Seashell Wreath!
It's easy!
Heart Shape Wreath
This wreath I designed with yellow and orange shells. These shells are rarer to find and I thought they'd look great by combining the two colors together. By putting the buttercup and cockle shells upside down, they not only provide a 3-D look but also show off their brilliant coloring.

Welcome!
So you've been collecting seashells. Now what? Are they sitting in the garage in a coffee can? How long have they been sitting there? Have you been meaning to create a craft or art piece but have not decided on what project to make?
Making a seashell wreath is pretty easy. There's no expensive equipment or supplies to buy. The biggest expense will be in purchasing a high temp glue gun and they run about $15. More on that at wreath supplies. So why not get started today! Let me show you how to create a really beautiful seashell wreath.
Whether the wreath is for you or to give as a gift, you'll have a lot of fun in making one. In fact, you might be like me and won't be able to stop. You'll start dreaming of a new design for the next wreath and soon you'll be addicted.
And don't worry, even beginners can make a wreath.

About the Artist
Nancy Eckert was raised in Erie, PA and enjoyed many wonderful summers on the beaches at Presque Isle State Park. She comes from a family with artistic talent including a brother who is a fine artist with pen and ink.
Every time I got to Sanibel Island and pick up a shell, I'm amazed at nature's artwork -- there are so many different patterns, shapes, and sizes of shells. And when I walk along the surf, I see a variety of people shelling from 8 months old to 80 years old.
The artist in her makes Nancy want to create each seashell wreath with its own style and character. Whether it’s arranging the shells in a certain color scheme, painting the shells, or adding special touches such as dried flowers, mangrove leaves, or hand-painted ornaments, she knows each wreath will have that unique, artistic touch.
Each wreath has its own style and character - like a snowflake, no two are alike!

Staging the Wreath Photo Shoot
I take my pictures indoors. At first, I would take the wreath outside to photograph them but I got too much shadow in the photo and it competed with the look of the wreath. So what I do now is place the wreath on the rug in the foyer. The rug is about 3' x 5'. Some light comes in the foyer but not very much at all, so you don't really need a really bright spot.
Then I stage it. I first look in my closet for a shirt or dress that goes with the theme of my wreath. Then I add a knickknack or piece of jewelry or even a wine bottle.
Here's a secret tip: when you take the picture with your camera, adjust the setting to "forced flash off". This way you won't get the glare from any lights in your home. I wish I could get credit for this information, but it was my husband, Dave, who suggested that I do this. What would we do without our supportive hubbies!!!
