Get Shells!
Where do I get seashells? I don't live near a beach.
- At a seashell store.
- At a craft store like Michael's.
- At a department store like Walmart.
- Or purchase them online. Just google "seashells" or go to www.seashells.com.
I've personally visited the store for seashells.com which is called Sanibel Seashell Industries located on Sanibel Island in Southwest Florida near Fort Myers. They sell shells in a package or as a single shell. There's a lot of variety in color, species, and size.
Florida has some wonderful shells and Sanibel Island is known as the seashell capital.

Did you know...
Many people are surprised when they travel to the Florida Keys and discover that there are no beaches. If you do see a beach, most likely it's manmade. The Keys are comprised of coral, not sand.
What's the best type of bag for collecting seashells?
Any type of bag. I've seen people use plastic ziploc bags, small lingerie laundry bags, and even special bags for collecting seashells.
But if you're really into seashell collecting, I'd recommend the bag that I use that has double mesh and a drawstring. Double mesh is nice so that the smaller shells don't sneak out of the bag. A mesh bag is self-draining so you won't have sand and water accumulating as would happen with a plastic bag. With the mesh bag, it's easy to dip it into the water to clean the shells.
